Playdough

I had never made playdough until a week ago.  I used to make salt dough, which is what my mam always made for us.  After seeing an easy recipe, i decided to make some.  This is the recipe i used.  It made loads!  I would say the same amount as 4 tubs of playdough from the shops.

  • ½ cup salt
  • 1 cup plain flour
  • 2 tbs cream of tartar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 tbs oil
  • Food colouring

Add it all to a saucepan over low heat and stir with a metal spoon until very well combined.  Add a few drops of lavender oil if you want or maybe a bit of rice or even glitter for sensory exploration.

The girls had a friend over, so we made up 4 batches with 4 differnt colours.  Their friend loved taking hers home.   After the first batch of pink, i decided to add a scent to the next.   To the green we added peppermint flavouring.  To the Yellow, strawberry flavouring.  Blue, vanilla essence.  The strawberry playdough smelled lush!

Once it’s played with wrap it up in clingfilm or in a plastic bag.  It keeps for ages!

Very cheap to make too!
